Every shed is prone to wear and tear. This is caused by factors like weathering, termites, rust, etc. Repairing damage to wood surfaces can be time consuming and costly.

Wood sheds are particularly prone to rotting. This can be prevented by installing a waterproof coating on susceptible wood surfaces. This would protect them from adverse conditions like rain and damp weather. It is a good idea to examine them routinely for cracks in the woodwork. These can be filled in by wood dust.
Window sills can attract termite in the cracks between sill and bodywork. Therefore these areas need to be regularly checked. A good solution is to insulate these spaces with putty to prevent termite accumulation.
The roof is prone to rusting over time. This can be prevented by covering it with a rubber sheet during rain and snow, to minimize this risk.
Installing fire alarms can ensure against fire breaking out. Wood is flammable and catches fire easily. Although this is a rare contingency, it should be taken seriously as it can do serious damage if it occurs.

Plastic sheds are made of either resin or vinyl. These are relatively inert forms of material and don’t catch rust or wear and tear like most other materials. However there are some things that need to be considered in the maintenance of a plastic shed.

To prevent this, wipe affected corners with a wet cloth dipped in disinfectant at least thrice a month. All the four walls including the roof should be given a thorough wash down at least once every three months to prevent bacteria accumulation through dust and other elements.

Most importantly, they should be created in ideal locations, where the chances of rusting, weathering, and dent related accidents can occur. Yards and back gardens are ideal places to create one’s shed. These are well sheltered areas, protected from the elements and external damage, while being easy to access.
